Eric J. Conn (Super Lawyer) is a founding partner of Conn Maciel Carey and Chair of the firm’s national OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice Group. His practice focuses exclusively on issues involving occupational safety and health law. Before launching his own OSHA Practice, Mr. Conn practiced for more than a decade alongside the former first General Counsel of the OSH Review Commission. Mr. Conn and his OSHA Team at Conn Maciel Carey develop safety and health regulatory strategies for employers across all industries.
Mr. Conn is extremely proud to have presided over Conn Maciel Carey’s national OSHA Practice when it was recognized as one of only three “Band 1” Rated OSHA Law Firms by Chambers USA in 2022 (the first year that Chambers ranked the OSHA Law category). Kara M. Maciel (Super Lawyer) is a founding partner of Conn Maciel Carey and Chair of the firm’s national Labor • Employment Practice Group. She focuses her practice on representing employers in all aspects of the employment relationship. Ms. Maciel works to create workplace solutions for her clients across all industries. She defends employers in litigation at both the federal and state levels, including matters related to the ADA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, and affirmative action/OFCCP regulations. She advises clients regarding the protection of trade secrets and the misappropriation of confidential or proprietary information, both defending employers and pursuing enforcement against former employees. Ms. Maciel also provides advice and counsel to unionized and non-unionized workplaces.
Ms. Maciel received a 2014 Burton Award for Legal Writing for coauthoring the article “For Employers with High Turnover and Large Numbers of Seasonal Workers, the ACA Creates Unique Compliance Issues.” Ms. Maciel was also recommended in the Labor-Management Relations category of The Legal 500 United States (2013) and selected for inclusion in Washington, DC Super Lawyers since 2014.
Jordan B. Schwartz is a partner of Conn Maciel Carey in the firm’s national Labor • Employment Practice Group in Washington, DC.
Mr. Schwartz advises employers on a wide range of complex employment-related issues and advises properties regarding all aspects of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He defends employers against claims of discrimination and harassment, misappropriation of trade secrets, and wage and hour violations. He also counsels employers on all aspects of the employer-employee relationship.
Mark M. Trapp (Super Lawyer) is a partner in Conn Maciel Carey’s Chicago office. He practices law with a concentration in labor and employment.
Mr. Trapp advises employers on multiemployer pension withdrawal liability issues and arbitrates and litigates withdrawal liability matters with pension funds around the country. He also provides counsel on labor relations, union election campaigns, and collective bargaining, and defends employers in a broad range of NLRB litigation and arbitration proceedings. Mr. Trapp also litigates matters arising under the ADA, ADEA, Title VII and state anti-discrimination laws.
Lindsay A. DiSalvo (Rising Star) is a Partner in the Washington, DC office of Conn Maciel Carey. Ms. DiSalvo represents and advises employers in all aspects of the employer-employee relationship including wage and hour disputes, claims of employment discrimination, and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ms. DiSalvo also reviews and revises employee handbooks and workplace policies and procedures, and prepares separation and settlement agreements.
Ms. DiSalvo represents employers during inspections and investigations conducted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and state OSHA programs, and handles the full range of OSHA litigation, from citation contests to administrative hearings. Ms. DiSalvo also advises and counsels employers in responding to notices from OSHA about employee complaints of safety hazards, and helps develop and audit safety and health programs.
Daniel C. Deacon (Rising Star) is a Partner in the Washington, DC office of Conn Maciel Carey working in both the Labor and Employment and OSHA practice groups. Mr. Deacon advises and represents employers on a wide range of employment-related issues, including wage and hour disputes, claims of discrimination and harassment, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
Mr. Deacon also helps employers develop and implement effective workplace policies and safety and health programs. Additionally, Mr. Deacon represents and advises employers during inspections and investigations conducted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and state OSHA programs, responds to notices from OSHA about employee complaints of safety hazards, and represents employers in OSHA litigation, including citation contests and administrative hearings. Mr. Deacon also helps employers develop safety and health programs and policies, and conducts presentations on a variety of workplace safety topics.
Beeta B. Lashkari (Rising Star) is an associate in the Washington, DC office of Conn Maciel Carey LLP working in the OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice Group. Ms. Lashkari is a former Attorney-Advisor at the Chemical Safety Board (CSB), and advises and represents clients in a wide range of inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions. Additionally, Ms. Lashkari manages workplace investigations by OSHA, CSB, EPA, and other state/local regulators, defending employers, as well as counseling clients, developing/reviewing safety policies, and providing compliance advice on myriad legal issues employers face in the workplace.
Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Lashkari was an Attorney-Investigator for the CSB, where she developed comprehensive written analyses of OSHA and EPA regulations for numerous investigation reports, provided legal advice regarding the agency’s statutory authority and jurisdiction, and negotiated safety recommendations with corporations, regulators, and trade associations. Through her tenure, Ms. Lashkari specialized in OSHA standards, and has written extensively and presented on them.
